Create a quick and simple quiet sky in Adobe Illustrator

In today's tutorial, I'll show you how to create a quick and easy calm cloudy sky scene in Adobe Illustrator using the Scatter Brush and the blending mode to screen. We learn how you draw to create a silhouette of the bird and the Sun flare tool. So let's go!

First of all should we draw the background. Take the Rectangle tool (M), and draw a rectangle with the same dimensions as the Artboard. Fill it with the help of the gradient. Standard color field libraries of Adobe Illustrator can do this. Go to window > color field libraries > gradients > sky. Select a pattern. Set the angle of 90 degrees, in history panel.

We need to draw a circle to create a scatter brush . Use the Ellipse tool (L). Then, drag and drop this circle around the brush window . Create a brush to disperse. Use random settings, as shown in the image below.

Take the Brush tool (B) and select our new Scatter Brush. Draw several different lines, as shown in the figure below. You should get the shapes of clouds.

Select all cloud shapes and go to object > expand appearance , to transform Brush objects. Don't forget Ungroup (CTRL + SHIFT + G) these forms.

Now you can change the size of the cloud. I have less than them. Then select all circles and fill them. Use black / white or radial gradient.

Transparency Panel to go further and set the blending mode to screen. Now can the shapes of the individual cloud Group (CTRL + G). If you are using a black fill with blending mode screen, she will be completely transparent. This process is so only knows that the gradients show. Created it a fluffy, fuzzy effect you usually would reach with a group of white color gradients, and the many grid-blur effects. Since these gradients within vector shapes your fluffy, fuzzy effect however is 100% vector!

Make a few copies of the clouds. Here can the hot keys CTRL + C and CTRL + V.

Make more copies. Then dial some of them and the transparency Panel . Set the Opacity between 60% and 80%. This will give the impression of distance for some of the clouds.

Bird put on: the body and the head draw with the Ellipse tool (L) with the Pen tool (P) of the tail and wings draw with the Pencil tool (N) draw the beak

Take the width (SHIFT + W) and the left wing add something extra thick. Drag the path in the middle and the Width will be thickening.

Add some thick closer at the top of the wing. Reuse the width (SHIFT + W).

Finally, add additional strength to the underside of the wing.

Make the second wing and the tail using the same technique.

Create multiple copies of the tail. Now it looks much better.

Now select all the shapes of the bird and go object > expand appearance. Finally, unite all forms using the Pathfinder Panel.

Copies you three of the bird, and fill it with white.

Select the birds and effect > Stylize > feather. Set the Feather RADIUS to 2px.

Take the Flare Tool, click and drag anywhere in your drawing. Then left click anywhere else. You should use the torch as the Sun in the sky.

You can now the clipping mask to hide the protruding parts. All objects with the same size as the Artboard, draw the square at the top. Select all and go object > clipping mask > make (CTRL + 7).

I hope that you have enjoyed this tutorial! If you like to paint the clouds have a look for my other quick tip: to illustrate text elements like a Valentine card
