So for this tutorial we show you a nice old signs effect with Photoshop and a default image to create. The whole process is pretty simple bu the end result is quite nice. We will create a simple animated gif at the end.
Open Photoshop and create a new document. I use 2880 x 1800 , because there is the resolution, I need for a beautiful wallpaper. Make sure that your background color black.
We add the text that will be the basis for the design. The concept is inspired by the film the incredible Burt wonder bloomstone, there is two Mages, so it has all this Las Vegas-style. For the font I have knockout for the "Abduzeeni" and Adobe Devanagari for the "amazing". Position the text as shown in the picture below.
Let us use some 3D in Photoshop. Has Adobe Photoshop users give a better 3D tool worked hard, and I must say it is getting better. It is not so slow for basic 3D objects, and it is also more intuitive. So create our 3D text, only choose the layer with the text that you apply to the 3D and go to 3D > new 3D extrusion of selected level. Once you have customized your 3D settings, go to 3D > render to render your 3D layer. You have something like the image below.
Choose the face of the 3D object and it create a new layer. This layer is filled with red.Activate layer > create clipping mask.
Go to layer > new adjustment layer > hue / saturation. Use 30 for hue, 30 for the saturation and 50 for ease. Ensure that this layer used also clipping mask (level enable > create clipping mask) so that the effect only for the 3D-Ebene. applies
To create the light bulbs we use a real image. The one I use is courtesy of Shutterstock and it is called casino entrance neon sign by MaxFX. Copy a light bulb that is not completelly on another, which is disabled. Add these 2 lights on your composition and fills the space to the letters. Keep in mind that I'm using a shadow to give some depth. You can do this by using the layer styles. Another tip is to change the direction of the shadow for the letters that are on the left or right, so we, to ensure that it is a bit more realistic.
Add a layer on top of the other, and there will be in a folder group. Change the blending mode to Color Dodgeof the folder. Select the level within this folder and then a very soft and rounded brush using the Brush tool (B), with white for the color. Size of the brush, so it is a 30% larger than the bulb. Paint in the selected layer with white top on the bulbs that you want to turn on.
Repeat the same process on the other bulbs.
Duplicate all levels and connect the new levels to one. Go to filter > blur > Gaussian blur. Use 10 pixels RADIUS. Change the blending mode to this level to the screen at 20%. Duplicate this layer again and change the blend mode to overlay at 50%. Move the folder that contains the layer that has the white patches (previous step) so this layer above all other levels. After all these steps, you're good to go. Can some adjustments to improve make and design, but that is the whole idea of the tutorial to give you some directions, now it is for you.
To create the animation is fairly easy to create just a few different versions with some lights switched on and off. With only import an app that can create animated GIFs all these images. I have Fireworks and I have one of the versions for each State.
