Retro Moderinist artwork in Illustrator and Photoshop

So in this tutorial I show you how a retro futuristic illustration with Adobe to create Illustrator and Photoshop. I will add not many details to create shapes, it is more like a simple guide on how to do this, as I create the figure.

Open Illustrator to and begin to create the composition. As I have an old illustration as a reference so I understand I learn exactly what could the figure to give the style what I want. In this case, the vanishing points, perspective and very geometric shapes are the secret. I began to create everything in shades of gray. Once I moved the base objects I had after the color part.

Another important point was to understand the color palette that would be what I wanted. Once again, I have a picture of Justin Mezzell and start with some of the colors to see if I could achieve the same effect as he.

After coloring it was time to add some dimensionality to the image. The first and most important thing is to use hard shadows. Most of these designs are inspired by old show and architectural illustrations, where harsh shadows were vey common. To create the basic shade I have black 10% multiply for the blend mode. I have also some frames for the Windows, to generate the 3D effect.

I have some subtle gradients to increase a bit more realism, as you can see in the image below. Multiply for the gradient colors I used white and black at 10% with the opacity.

To create the clouds, I have basic circles and Pathfinder, to unite them in an object. Then, I apply the same fine gradient. I had a basic cloud, I began I duplicate and played with sizes and angles.

The car was pretty much the same, only a few angular shapes, not with curves at all. At this time I understood a little more of geometric Illustraitons, so I started, I was different from the original picture as a reference. Notice the reflection on the window, the a really nice touch that I saw in the work of Justin Mezzell as well.z

Time to go to Photoshop to add some effects. Copy the composition from Illustrator and paste it into Photoshop. 2880 X 1800 I use for the size.

I paste always vectors as smart objects, so that I can always tweak without destroying everything. So the first thing to do, go to filter > filter Gallery > diffuse glow. Use the following values to the image some beautiful grain added.

Duplicate the layer and then move on to filter > filter Gallery > brush strokes > angled strokes. Use the values shown in the following figure. The idea is to add some brush deformations. The best would be to do it by hand but for the tutorial we filter.

Reduce the opacity of the angled strokes to 80% with bright up level with the fill method.

Paint with the Brush tool (B) and a very soft brush a beautiful orange place to a sunset create effect. I have overlay for the blending mode at 100 %

Duplicat of the Illustraiton level and then go to filter > "Distort" > Mezzotint. Use fine points.

Go to image > Adjustmetns > Desaturate. Then change the mode to Color Dodge. You have something like the image Belowl.

Go to image > adjustments > levels. Reduce the white input level slider to 100 or a bit more. The goal here is that light grains make almost invisible.

With the Eraser tool (E), you can some areas of the level of grain less strongly to delete. I tried to visualize the particles hide the lighter areas and on the dark.

You can also the same as the previous steps for the dark grains to create another layer of lighter grains. The effect will make it a little bit better and more real. Their design is pretty much done after this and as I said, it was the first time I tried something like this. I'm still learning, and it is up to you to take it from here and make it perfect. If you do this, you share with us, we would love to see what you can come up with.
